Lewis Delhomme continues his all-terrain journey, indulging in dripping basslines, riffs and breakbeats that bloom within saturation.
If he had patiently bided his time to release his first album (Sonic Poems, 2022) after a string of singles each more insistent than the last, nothing now seems capable of slowing down the music-obsessed appetite of Lewis OfMan.
After paying homage to the dance music born from DFA Records, he had—being a devoted fan of sampling—ruptured the loop on a second record in a guitar-hero fashion (Cristal Medium Blue, 2024), before enjoying a sojourn in South Korea to reconnect with the synth melodies that propelled his success. Today, he returns to the primal source of his music: electricity.
Lewis OfMan pushes to the limit and undermines pop ambition
On this 50KWTTS, the aptly titled release, Lewis Delhomme—his civil surname—operates in a compact, closed circuit. Limited gear, a bank of samples, and a blind faith in improvisation, exploration, and the first take. The result is the most immediate and raw record from its author, who does not bother with any form of vanity or polish.
Dripping basslines, riffs and breakbeats that flourish in saturation, the third album from Lewis OfMan pushes to the limits and challenges the pop ambitions that have always threaded his music, inspired by library music. A primitive version of his debut album, Sonic Poems, it allows him to return to the source of his New York–tinged influences.
50KWTTS (Profil de Face/Virgin Records/Universal). Release on April 3. Live in concert at La Cigale, Paris, on April 21.
