Frank Gálvez, a musician and singer best known for his role in Gasca and for the longtime project he shared for years with Guille Mostaza, Mostaza Gálvez, has died. The news was announced by Mostaza himself, who bid his friend farewell in a lengthy and moving message.
Born in Barcelona in 1976, Gálvez led Gasca, a band that released the album Telescopio on Elefant Records in the early 2000s and that became a cult favorite within the indie scene. Gálvez and Mostaza met precisely then, when Gasca opened for Niza—a group that at the time included a member who later joined Ellos.
Many years later, the two would end up living together and sharing a studio, writing songs side by side. Thus was born Mostaza Gálvez, a project that issued the EP Restos in 2016 and the albums Vida y milagros (2017) and Desventura (2020). In both releases, Gálvez and Mostaza alternated vocal duties while also sharing the instrumentation and production responsibilities.
In 2023, Gálvez also released his first solo album, Siempre te diré que sí, issued by Subterfuge. The record comprises ten tracks and features production by Guille Mostaza, with Diego Perinetti contributing on instrumentals.
It was precisely Mostaza who delivered the news. “I’m losing a friend, a life partner, a flatmate, a studio mate, a bandmate, a stage companion, a traveler, laughter and tears,” he begins his farewell. The musician recalls Gálvez as a “brother,” a person of “exalted humor and boundless energy” and a “talented disaster” with whom he shared 25 years of friendship.
“There was no facade or disguise in him,” Mostaza writes. “If one can speak of someone authentic, that is Frank Gálvez.” And he concludes: “Now the world is a little grayer without him here.”
