Cristina Llanos, the voice of Dover, has broken her silence with ‘The Night Fell and No One Can Save Me Now’ (La Esfera de los Libros), a diary in which she revisits some of the darkest episodes of her life. El Mundo publishes a preview of the book, which arrives in bookstores this Thursday.
Llanos recounts, with blunt honesty, the mistreatment she endured from her father, including insults, blows, and other violent situations, and she also tells of the sexual assault she suffered at 18 at the hands of a neighbor, after which years of depression and suicidal ideation began. About these latter, she writes: “I live because, although it shames me to admit it to myself, I don’t have the guts to kill myself.” The book also addresses anorexia, which she endured at different stages of her life, and her relationship with alcohol and medications.
The book also addresses fibromyalgia, which eventually affected her vocal cords and led Llanos to leave the stage. It also recalls the death of her brother Mariano in 2023 and the passing of her parents.
In ‘The Night Fell and No One Can Save Me Now’ there is also room for her political opinions, which promise to be quite controversial. Llanos declares herself a radical feminist, a stance akin to what in English is called a “TERF,” attacks the current Trans Law and questions whether a piece of legislation that, in her view, “fails to protect” women can be considered a good law. The diary also includes reflections on other political and social matters, among them her pro-Israel stance, according to El País, although this part does not appear in the advance published.
