Envido6, the Caño brothers’ group, have propelled “Dama y vagabundo” to No. 18 on Spotify Spain, climbing 61 spots in a single day. It is a version by Bromas Aparte and Ana Mena that has circulated relentlessly on social media in recent days, though it isn’t entirely clear whether it’s out of admiration or sheer horror.
The video of the six brothers singing it on a terrace, delivered with the intensity as if they had just received a divine revelation, is being commented on almost more than the song itself, which remains the typical gang folk with guitars and a communal chorus that has been written millions of times already.
The video has already surpassed 40 million views and has spawned memes and comments of every kind. Among the celebrities who have weighed in, Gerard Piqué shared it with, “This content should be paid.” We can attest that people on the street are talking about the topic as well.
The Caño brothers, who form Envido6, are a large family linked to Opus Dei, as reported by El País, and have been singing together since they were little. According to those close to them, “they’ve been doing it for years, with their parents, since they were very small.” This time they simply recorded it during a vacation in Huesca and someone decided to upload it online.
Natalia, David, Álvaro, Javi, Miki, and Pepe are between 18 and 26 years old. Javi, furthermore, participated in the composition of “Alza la mirada,” the anthem created for the Papal visit to Spain. After the viral spread, they continued uploading videos, with renditions of Jarabe de Palo or El Canto del Loco. And now “Dama y vagabundo” has just entered the Spanish top 20.
Without the risk of Flos Mariae’s music, as rhythmically offbeat as it is bold, Envido6’s music still doesn’t stand out on the scene. For now, the cover of “Dama y vagabundo” is their only single available on streaming platforms. Let’s hope the next release is 100% original, so we can see whether the phenomenon works even without a borrowed song.
⭐️ (23/09) “Dama y vagabundo” in the @envido6 version rockets to #18 (+61) on the Spotify Spain chart with 154,241 plays
