Vicco, who has just confirmed her participation in the forthcoming edition of Benidorm Fest after delivering the festival’s biggest success in history with “Nochentera,” despite not taking the top prize, is kicking off the promotional push and releasing a new single. It’s probably not the same track she will perform at Benidorm Fest, since most songs (or nearly all) tend to drop simultaneously.
“Gaslighting,” much like “Nochentera” or more recently “Tiramisú,” is another Vicco track that relies on a term that has gained popularity online to tell a heartbreak story inspired by this well-known manipulation tactic. Yet the message of “Gaslighting” remains as rosy as ever, with lines like “tonight I feel diva” in the pre-chorus, or a chorus that rhymes “you’re pure gas-gaslighting” with “I didn’t see it, I didn’t see it, by your side I got lost.”
The 80s-inflected R&B sound isn’t exactly new to her discography, though the blend of synthesizers and autotune gives it a stylish edge that calls to mind moments from Kim Petras. The melody isn’t bad, and while it may not be as instantly catchy as some of her other singles, it conveys that refined pop taste Vicco is known for—one that doesn’t conflict with the genre.
