Chris Brown has narrowly escaped prison. The artist was moments away from serving an eight-month sentence after pleading guilty to an assault at a London nightclub in 2023, but ultimately the punishment was suspended for a year.
If Brown commits a new offense during this period, the sentence will be enforced. Otherwise, he will not go to prison. The 37-year-old singer is alleged to have seriously assaulted producer Abraham Diaw with a bottle at one of the capital’s most exclusive clubs. Omololu Akinlolu, Brown’s vocal coach, also participated in the incident and, after being found guilty and given four months in jail, his sentence has also been suspended.
Both Akinlolu and Brown will nonetheless have to pay a £1,500 fine for court costs. During the proceedings, the judge reminded the singer that “commercial success does not entail preferential treatment.” In addition, security camera footage was shown illustrating Brown striking Diaw with the bottle four times, two of which were to the head.
