Mon Laferte was the latest guest on Rosalía’s Confessional in Mexico, where she recalled all the times people have labeled her as “intense, dramatic, exaggerated” and “passionate,” but that’s not what her fans are talking about. The Chilean-Mexican artist was at Mexico’s airport when a young man approached her with the idea of getting an autograph. Laferte’s response, which was to refuse, sparked all kinds of criticism.
In the video, uploaded by the supposed fan, you can see him asking for an autograph and Mon Laferte asking him for a song he likes from her latest album, Femme Fatale Vol. 2. He can’t name the title of any track, but he tries to win over the artist by reminding that “I brought you flowers.” Mon Laferte was clear: “A fan who comes to wait at the airport should know all the songs, but thanks for the flowers,” the artist said as she walked away.
Although many started criticizing the artist, others supported her stance, claiming that the guy was involved in reselling autographs. Mon Laferte even felt obliged to respond to a fan’s tweet explaining the whole situation: “I don’t understand why Mon automatically has to come off as the villain simply because a fan didn’t get the response they were hoping for,” commented the user. “Sweetheart, I’m almost sure he wasn’t a fan,” clarified the artist.
“Do you think someone who goes to wait for their favorite artist at the airport doesn’t know any song from their last two albums? If I’m wrong, that’s okay. We all make mistakes. But the devil knows more because he’s old than because he’s the devil,” the artist wrote on X.
