Backlash Against Slipknot for Announcing a Tour With Marilyn Manson

September 30, 2026

Just in case it needed reminding: no, Marilyn Manson has not been canceled, if such a thing were truly possible. He continues to tour with total normalcy; in fact he just played in Spain and, although his latest albums have attracted far less attention, he has not stopped working. He is now joining one of the major stadium tours of 2027, Slipknot’s. He will be at Wembley and on several dates in South America.

Many Slipknot fans disagree. The BBC reports that thousands of people responded to the announcement on Instagram and that some lifelong followers say they won’t buy a ticket. “I would have loved to see this, but there is literally nothing you could do to get my money into Manson’s pockets,” writes one. Another calls it “a huge disappointment” and says he won’t go. NME also quotes another fan who asks: “Manson? Seriously?”

NME collects more negative reactions. “As the world’s biggest former Manson fan, WHAT THE HELL??? This is very disappointing,” writes one. Another says: “I suppose I will never see you live again or support the band, and it’s a shame because I’ve been a fan my whole life.” “Guys, Manson? Seriously?” asks another. And there are those who directly state they won’t be at Wembley while Manson is on the bill.

Not everyone thinks the same. There are fans who are delighted with the choice as well, and one notes that Slipknot and Manson share “a huge overlap of audience,” so to him it seems “the perfect opening act.” The backlash mainly stems from the abuse allegations that several women have made against Manson since 2021, including Evan Rachel Wood. Even Phoebe Bridgers and Ellie Roswell of Wolf Alice spoke about their dark encounters with him. Manson has always denied the allegations and has said that his intimate relationships were consensual.

In the courts, some things have closed and others remain. Manson reached a settlement with Wood in 2024 and paid her legal costs, while the Los Angeles criminal investigation ended in 2025 without charges: prosecutors said that possible domestic-violence offenses had prescribed and that they could not prove the sexual-assault allegations beyond a reasonable doubt. Ashley Walters’ civil case, his former assistant, is ongoing and is expected to go to trial in 2027.
