Björk Outdoes Herself in Balloon Dress for the Eclipse

The total solar eclipse on August 12 had its own rave in Iceland. Echolalia, organized by Björk and Smekkleysa, drew around 7,000 people on the outskirts of Reykjavík, with Arca among the performers, and culminated with a DJ set by Björk herself.

According to elDiario.es, which attended the event, Arca acted as the warm-up, delivering a session that traversed Afro-Venezuelan rhythms and club electronics. After that Björk took the decks, spinning tracks by Kelela, Arca, Gnawa music, and other African-inspired sounds, in addition to Marina Herlop’s ‘Jaque’. And of course, she closed with ‘Berghain’, her collaboration with Rosalía.

But the real headline is that Björk has once again outdone herself in the realm of impossible looks. For the appearance, the Icelandic artist wore a Robert Wun design that literally transformed her into a gigantic creature made of white balloons, surpassing even the famous Volta cover outfit and many of her recent live looks. Remember when she DJed at Sonar dressed as a mummy? This is on another level. elDiario.es describes her entrance to the stage to the rhythm of Thus Spoke Zarathustra, with the immense shapes orbiting around her body.
