We’ve grown tired of repeating that Ganges is the “electronic pop project” of Teresa Gutiérrez, but the truth is that this musical umbrella hosts a wide array of sounds. If on “Dime algo bonito” she approached a delicate, meticulous bedroom pop, in her sweeping solo release of 2024, “SORA,” that concept drifted into a universe reminiscent of hyperpop, yet utterly peculiar, something that had already been hinted at in the trance of “Fotolog Nostalgia.”
Another of Ganges’s strongest cards is her warm, expressive vocal timbre, and precisely the contrast between the club energy of “Palomita ojos azules” and that vocal presence is one of the most striking aspects of the Cantabrian artist’s new single.
There is little doubt that “Palomita ojos azules” is Ganges’s most club-oriented single to date. The track sits on a resolutely techno-house beat, while Ganges sings as if from another room. The magic lies in the details: the chopped-and-screwed children’s choir at the opening, the piano’s dripping motif that at times evokes Rusowsky, and the agile tempo changes that unfold across the song—these elements transform “Palomita ojos azules” into another piece of Ganges’s artistry, as she delivers the lyrics with the warmth and delicacy that define her craft.
Furthermore, the lyrics lean toward a nearly naïve romance, turning the beloved into a “peace dove / flying through the clouds” and weaving images of total infatuation such as “I’ve never seen anything like this / In your blue eyes” or “Sick with hope / I’ve written you a letter.” It is a love song that feels suspended between fantasy and devotion.
