Boy Harsher Are No Longer a Couple, But They Still Rock ‘Solos’

September 27, 2026

Boy Harsher, the duo formed by Jae Matthews and Augustus Muller, known for emulating the 1980s new wave and synth-pop sounds, is back. And even though they are no longer a couple—they split in 2024—this hasn’t prevented them from releasing a third album in these days, titled ‘GET MEAN’.

In it we find new echoes of the New Order sound, as effective as ‘Tough Luck’ and ‘Jeans’. It travels a bit freer, true to their style, with ‘Faulty’, which is why we choose it as Song of the Day today. Above all for its simple yet unforgettable synth stabs, which could have built Visage.

‘Faulty’ is a dark composition, full of doubts and questions that pertain to oneself or to the life of a couple in general. The lead vocalist asks about her flaws or whether we are truly “much better off alone,” and she does so again and again.

The arty-cut video manages to lift you from your chair despite the grim faces worn by its characters and the desolate feel of the shooting room. On television there are sometimes interferences, and there appears a sad cowboy freshly escaped from a David Lynch film. Pure underground poetry from first-year audiovisual students who, yes, as you guessed, directed it themselves. It’s their charm.
