Julio Iglesias Sues eldiario.es and Yolanda Díaz

July 23, 2026

eldiario.es reports that Julio Iglesias has filed a lawsuit against the publication itself, its director Ignacio Escolar, and four of its journalists: Juan Luis Sánchez, María Ramírez, Ana Requena, and Elena Cabrera.

The singer accuses them of the alleged offenses of publicly injuring his honor (defamation with publicity), slander, and a crime against moral integrity for the information published about the testimony of two former female employees who said they had suffered sexual assaults. In addition, his defense indicates that he will seek damages of a substantial amount.

According to eldiario.es, the lawsuit comes after the outlet refused to rectify or withdraw those reports in a conciliation meeting held about a month ago. eldiario.es maintains that the journalistic work spanned three years, that the testimonies were corroborated, and that it attempted to obtain Iglesias’s version before publication, but without success. It also denies having manipulated the statements of the complainants and explains that the use of actresses to dub their voices was solely to protect their identities.

Separately, Julio Iglesias has also sued the government’s second vice president, Yolanda Díaz, for remarks made after the case became public. The singer is seeking 50,000 euros for an alleged intrusion into his right to honor and asks for a public retraction.

eldiario.es argues that both the lawsuit and the suit against Yolanda Díaz arise from “false facts” and defends the rigor of its investigation.
