TMZ confirmed that Lady Gaga and Michael Polansky have welcomed their first child via surrogacy, meaning that another woman carried the baby for the couple. The practice is legal and regulated in California, although it is not known who carried the girl in this case or whether there was any financial compensation involved.
That Gaga and Polansky had already become parents had been known for a few days, but the American outlet adds this detail and also publishes the baby girl’s full name: Rose Bean Polansky.
According to TMZ, the baby was born on June 9 in Los Angeles. It is not known why Gaga and Polansky chose surrogacy. Gaga has spoken several times about the fibromyalgia she suffers from, a chronic condition that causes pain and fatigue.
The girl’s name appears to contain several references to Gaga’s universe. ‘Rose’ could allude to La Vie en Rose, the song she performs in A Star Is Born, which also inspired one of her most well-known tattoos.
Even more speculative is the origin of ‘Bean’. TMZ points to a possible nod to Carl Bean, a singer and LGBTQ+ activist whose song I Was Born This Way inspired the title and message of Born This Way. Gaga and Polansky have not publicly explained the meaning of the name.
