Recently, Alba Morena released a rendition of ‘Al mar’, one of Manel’s most enduring classics and a landmark in Catalan pop, aligning with her recent artistic directions. Indeed, her new single ‘Estaba claro que no’ appeared on streaming platforms in a bilingual release, available in both Catalan and Spanish.
But the real news is that the four previews we know from her upcoming album are even stronger. The album is titled ‘Morena con A’—to stop people from confusing her with Alba Moreno—and it will be released on September 25. The full-length record will not include the version of ‘Al mar’, but it will feature the aforementioned ‘Estaba claro que no’, the piano-and-strings torch song ‘2º1ª’, the Fleetwood Mac-inspired pop-rock ‘No vuelvas’, and the track that seems to be taking the lead, ‘Alguien habrá’. It is Our Song of the Day today.
With nearly 100,000 plays on Spotify, supported by indie spotlights and others, it seems that ‘Alguien habrá’ is poised to supersede the electronic-pop gems with which we first met this Catalan singer-songwriter (‘Nadie’, ‘Yo te quiero pero’), as well as the more grunge, guitar-driven facet heard on her EP ‘Trámite’.
Around a simple drum machine, Alba Morena traces the emotional hurdles of her life. “I only cry or I laugh—where is the middle ground?” she asks, before delivering a chorus that is far more hopeful: “With so many people in the world, there must be someone who loves me.”
According to Universal, the song arose a year ago after “a history of disappointments and emotional setbacks; in a landscape where love seemed reluctant. But Alba chose to cling to a single idea: the conviction that there is a person for every soul in the world and that, by pure inertia of fate, there has to be someone good waiting to love her well.”
