Marina Domínguez is not a solo artist, but an all-female quartet from Zaragoza that started out by making something like “pop for the girls,” built on everyday songs, catchy choruses, humor, and a touch of misandry.
After their first EP, ‘Todas a chica’, they are about to release a second EP that, without losing their swagger, tackles somewhat more complex conflicts and the contradictions of being a girl in her twenties. Produced by Carasueño and mastered by Javier Roldón, the project has already offered glimpses such as the Ramones-inspired punk-rock of ‘AA Ana Psicóloga’.
Those who have followed them through tracks like ‘Chándal amarillo’ and that playful keyboard, or even curiosities like their cumbia with Rosin de Palo, will find in ‘En todas partes’ a more guitar-driven and melodic Marina Domínguez.
The Song of the Day talks about that moment of delirium in which, after a breakup, you see your ex everywhere, even though your life has moved on. “Curro de lo mío, y me he vuelto a enamorar, / guardo tus vinilos, un fantasma en el pasillo, / este invierno no ha hecho frío y me acabo de acordar”, they sing, between nostalgia and acceptance.
The typical keyboard-organ of Marina Domínguez also appears here, but this time as a prelude to guitars that grow and roar with ferocity in the chorus. The initial melancholy ends up turning into a kind of release, making ‘En todas partes’ one of the most mature and guitar-driven previews of that forthcoming EP.
