A few weeks ago, Queens of the Stone Age surprised us with a track that diverged from the “stoner rock” label they’re usually tied to. Now we know that that “Easy Street,” a somewhat country-influenced track, will be track 7 on the new album Josh Homme’s band will release on October 30. The new album will be titled ‘Perfecth’, and as of today a second single named ‘Insignificant Other’ is also available to listen to.
The album title, intentionally misspelled, is meant to reflect precisely that “nothing in this world is perfect.” The album announcement is accompanied by a humorous promotional video, directed by Chapman Baehler and starring Big Chongus, in which they ponder the notion of the “perfecth.”
With nods to horror cinema, and even to gore, it seems that the line separating the “perfect” from the “grotesque” is razor-thin. One thing is certain: they will manage to stamp the album’s title into your memory. As a marketing campaign, it’s fairly original at this stage of their career.
Regarding the new single, rich with Wurlitzer-style keyboards, they say it is “a song about distance, about how one person can mean the whole world to you and then fade away in an instant. And about the strange vertigo of standing on the side of the one who suffers.” It was recorded in only two takes and, once again, it shows a more relaxed QOTSA.
The tracklist reveals that there will be a total of nine songs and none of them will bear the title track:
