Pablo Alborán has expressed his indignation at the new agreement between the Andalusian government and the Andalusian dioceses, which will allocate 1.85 million euros per year from the Andalusian Health Service (SAS) to fund pastoral care in public hospitals over the next four years.
The Málaga-born singer shared the news on Instagram and urged that the money be invested in public health. “I can’t believe it. Invest in more doctors and in better conditions for those who are already there. Stop ridiculing the citizens who defend public health and the health workers. They are laughing at them! Enough already,” he wrote.
The agreement has also drawn criticism from Andalucía Laica and the Coordinadora de Mareas Blancas of Andalusia, who deem it unacceptable for SAS funds to be allocated to a confessional service while public health care continues to face staffing and funding problems. The agreement will have an initial duration of four years, extendable for another four, and will entail an expenditure of more than 7.8 million euros if the full period is completed.
