Perez Hilton, the well-known celebrity blogger, has been making headlines recently after being admitted to a Miami hospital following an incident during a TikTok livestream. His family has now confirmed that he is “serious but stable” and that he will need to undergo surgery in the coming days.
Hilton was livestreaming when several viewers alerted emergency services after seeing him injure himself. Police arrived at his home, where they found him alone and with a significant amount of blood loss. He remains hospitalized under Florida’s Baker Act, a mechanism designed for individuals undergoing a mental health crisis.
TikTok says it detected the livestream and forwarded it to its moderation team, but an error caused a delay in removing it. The platform says it notified the police and that it subsequently shut down other live streams, in addition to blocking the account. For the moment, no further measures related to the incident have been taken.
The family of Perez Hilton, whose real name is Mario Lavandeira, has asked for privacy as he recovers. Those close to him say the road to recovery will be long, but his condition is stable.
