Phoebe Bridgers is the brand-new number one in the United Kingdom, and it’s our Album of the Week, ‘Lost Weekend’. In its first week it sold 34,239 copies, of which more than 16,500 were on vinyl and nearly 8,900 on CD. The tapes and downloads were more modest (250 and 800), but streaming points were far from negligible: almost 8,000.
In fact, they were enough to place three tracks into the UK Top 100: ‘Lost Weekend’ sits at number 39 on the UK singles chart, ‘The Governor’s Waltz’ reaches position 53, and the single ‘Lost Boys’, which had already broken into the top 50, re-enters at number 69. Interestingly, the focus track ‘I Can’t Wait’ has fallen out of the charts.
It marks Phoebe Bridgers’ first solo album to reach number one in the British Isles, since her debut only peaked at 173 and ‘Punisher’ climbed into the top 6. Yet both enjoyed long-term success, reaching around 150,000 copies and nearly 200,000 respectively, solely within the Isles. This is closely related to the fact that ‘The Record’ from her side project Boygenius did indeed hit number 1.
All this success leaves Katseye’s notable EP, ‘WILD’, at number 2, having sold much less, 18,900 copies in the UK.
However, OCC itself notes that the positions will swap when it comes to the United States. According to forecasts, Katseye have sold 170,000 units of ‘WILD’ and will be number 1 on the Billboard 200, while in that scenario Phoebe Bridgers would have to settle for the No. 2 spot, after moving around 110,000 units in these initial days.
