ROSÉ is back at school, even though in only a few months, specifically on February 11, she will turn 30. This isn’t a criticism because 1) everyone has a goofy afternoon at any age, and 2) this has already happened in “Beverly Hills, 90210. Sensación de vivir.” It’s also what unfolds in the video for “new trick.”
The song, co-written by ROSÉ, Andrew Wells and Amy Allen, is a sharp punk-pop anthem, balancing anger and cotton candy. Some will talk about Olivia Rodrigo; it’s also exactly the kind of thing Shampoo’s legendary album was.
Our Song of the Day today is a post-breakup track in which ROSÉ gathers her “heart from the ground,” laments that love “disappears like the rainbow,” and “searches for new tricks to forget.” Because “you can’t stop a girl with a broken heart,” in the video directed by Dave Meyers she spends the scenes kicking cars. Not many more words are needed, it’s very simple: welcomed into Today’s Top Hits, it could be another hit for the co‑performer of “APT.”
