A judge has dismissed the sexual harassment and discrimination lawsuit filed by Lizzo’s former tour wardrobe designer, framing the incidents as part of the ordinary tribulations of the workplace.
The complaint was initially submitted in 2023, about a month after three dancers accused the singer of sexual harassment and a hostile work environment. Asha Daniels contended that Lizzo subjected her to bullying as well as sexual and racial harassment.
“Today I am relieved to announce that I have won the case against me and my touring company. All the ridiculous statements from a wardrobe assistant who worked on the tour for less than three weeks, including the one claiming she had broken a nail, have been dismissed,” Lizzo wrote in a new video.
Daniels had alleged “lewd gestures” and sexual jokes directed at coworkers, such as “penis-shaped candies,” among Lizzo’s actions. The judge described the conduct as “inappropriate and unprofessional,” but not as something intended to “demonstrate general hostility toward women in the workplace or unequal treatment between men and women.”
“Everything has been very shocking because I was being sued by someone who had never even known me,” Lizzo shared. The racial discrimination claims Daniels had leveled against her supervisor, Amanda Nomura, were also dismissed after no “evidence” was found.
