SIENNA is a Valencian singer-songwriter who has released three albums and has crafted a sound that aligns him with some of the most popular currents in Spanish indie-rock, such as Vetusta Morla, Viva Suecia, or the guitar-forward side of Alizzz. The strength of his songs and a vocal persona with a distinctive stamp position him as an artist with potential to make a significant leap at any moment.
Devoted to big emotions, his music blends guitars and synthesizers with a performance full of character. This formula has propelled tracks like “Epic and Mortal” to nearly 5 million streams on Spotify, while “This Is Not Heaven” became part of the soundtrack of the recent adaptation of Física o Química.
Since 2017 he has released the albums “Tragic and Fleeting,” “Times of Impact” and “Trance.” Now he expands his discography with “LINCE” (Lynx), a new work that he will present on a tour across various Spanish cities from November to February next year, with more dates to be announced. In this record, SIENNA incorporates new electronic textures, as evidenced by the synth-pop track “X los siglos de los siglos,” without relinquishing the guitars that have always defined his approach. In fact, “Afilado,” his latest single, is probably the most direct and immediate song on the album.
Where in “Loco” he leans toward a more intimate tone and in “Garra” embraces a more distorted production, “Afilado” sits closer to the latter. It is an energetic indie-rock composition that recalls bands like Placebo and makes emotional intensity its main driving force. The voice appears deliberately in the foreground so that every line lands with total clarity.
The song addresses the need to shield oneself from those who use their own wounds as an excuse to justify the harm they cause to others. Rather than a song about confrontation, “Afilado” champions the importance of setting limits and preserving one’s own emotional balance. In the words of SIENNA himself: “AFILADO speaks of protecting yourself, of anticipating, of staying alert. Nobody should be on guard, but at times you cannot allow the wounds of others to project onto you.”
