The French trailblazer continues her unconventional experiments within the orbit of ultra-contemporary pop.
Drawn to the unheard-of, the percussionist and composer Lucie Antunes – who straddles contemporary music, pop and electronic sounds – eagerly engages in extraordinary experiments, such as her Symphony for 100 Batteries.
Following the release of her excellent second album, Carnaval (2023), she felt the need to take a step back. She ultimately returned to music through dance when choreographer Mathilde Monnier suggested collaborating on a piece intended notably for the Festival d’Avignon.
Focusing on altered states of consciousness and the place of silence in the modern world, this joint artistic project gave birth to both a show and an album, both titled Silence. The musical portion took shape in a few months and mobilized around twenty people around Lucie Antunes: the poet Laura Vazquez (writer of the texts), the musician Canblaster (co-producer of the record), instrumentalists, backing vocalists and several artistic collaborators (Wolfgang Tillmans, Halo Maud, Clara Ysé, Rébecca Chaillon…).
The result unfolds over eighteen tracks, more or less vocal, and propels ultra-contemporary pop, cloaked in electronics, toward a beyond (the infinite silence?). From it emanates a powerful dynamic, both spiritual and corporeal, particularly striking on I Don’t Need, Cut Me, I Touch the Earth and Mushrooms.
