The Spanish album chart shows no new entries in the top 10, to the point that the week’s strongest rise is Aitana’s ‘Cuarto Azul’, which simply moves from No. 4 to No. 3. But there are some curious notes.
While Quevedo remains at No. 1 with ‘El Baifo’, Rels B registers the week’s strongest entry, but settles at No. 20 with ‘Fill de la Mar’ after entering midweek. The only other new entries are a Shinova reissue at No. 23 (‘Volver’) and Camilo’s ‘Para cuando sean mayores’ at No. 30.
Madonna drops to No. 42 in the 11th week of ‘Confessions II’. However, Spain is one of the markets where the album holds up best, alongside Belgium, and the first to award it a Gold Disc. UK Mix had estimated sales of around 19,000 copies in Spain, but Promusicae does not cover 100% of vinyl shops. This week sales exceed 20,000 in Spain, marking Madonna’s first Gold Disc in Spain since ‘MDNA’ (2012).
It is expected that ‘Confessions II’ will achieve Gold status in other key markets such as the United Kingdom, France, Germany, or Italy, between the end of this year and the start of the next, depending on distribution (the double LP and the cassette sold out), marketing (CDs still priced like gold) and potential reissues and new remixes, such as the one arriving this Friday with Charli XCX. Global sales are estimated at 600,000 units so far, but the era does not seem to be over and this week the singer performs at the VMAs in search of that hit single that continues to elude her.
Back in Spain, the strongest re-entry is Belén Aguilera’s ‘Anela’, which returns to No. 17 on its anniversary aided by the vinyl edition, which is actually No. 1 in the vinyl subchart. The album was top 8 at its peak and this would be its 7th week on the list.
