The cult Manchester band makes its grand comeback after 16 years of absence.
Vini Reilly has returned to the studio, surrounded by his longtime collaborators, drummer Bruce Mitchell and multi-instrumentalist Keir Stewart. In anticipation of the release of Renascent on July 31, 2026, The Durutti Column unveiled the first track from the album, Liars. The announcement follows a notable reissue of their debut album The Return of the Durutti Column in a new version (Expanded & Remastered) at the end of 2025.
A completely cult figure for an entire generation of indie/alternative artists, The Durutti Column has, for example, served as a source of inspiration for Frank Ocean but especially for Blood Orange, who pays tribute by sampling him on his track The Field, the lead single from Essex Honey, regarded as the best album of 2025 according to Les Inrockuptibles. Vini Reilly’s influence even extends to the British megastar Harry Styles, who regularly pays homage to him.
