VMAs Confirm Tributes to Dolly Parton and George Michael

September 24, 2026

We are continuing to learn the VMAs lineup in dribs and drabs, with the ceremony taking place this very Saturday, September 27. The latest update is that Kacey Musgraves will perform a set honoring the recently deceased Dolly Parton. She could also win an award, as she is nominated.

It won’t be the first time Kacey Musgraves pays tribute to Dolly Parton. She did so in 2021, when she performed alongside Mickey Guyton and other artists a rendition of ‘9 to 5’ at the ACM Awards gala. Now she will again pay tribute to Parton at the VMAs.

It’s not the only tribute to a deceased artist we’ll see at the VMAs ceremony that night. It had already been confirmed that George Michael would be another honoree, through a joint set between RAYE, sombr and Teddy Swims. The tribute makes sense because this Christmas will mark 10 years since his death.

We don’t know whether RAYE will also perform solo, since 2026 has been an important year for her, but in addition to her, acts will also include LISA, Sienna Spiro, Shaboozey, Gunna, GENER8ION and Yung Lean, as we have told you.

The ceremony will open with Madonna, who will deliver a performance with “guest artists.” It is expected that she will present her remix with Charli XCX, although not confirmed. Also, talk of “special guests” in the plural suggests you should start placing bets.

In Spain, the VMAs won’t be viewable live. MTV will offer the ceremony on Monday, September 28 at 21:00, in the original version with subtitles, while Comedy Central will air another broadcast in the early hours of Tuesday 29 into Wednesday 30, at 00:05. Additionally, Pluto TV will have a pop-up channel dedicated to the VMAs from September 29 to October 5. The U.S. broadcast will be in the early hours of Monday 28, at 01:30 Spanish time. The performances and other moments of the gala are expected to be posted on MTV’s digital channels.
